109 km Ahmedabad – Dholera Expressway to be complete by May 2025: Minister
The 109 km Ahmedabad-Dholera Expressway, developed by the Central Government, is expected to be completed by May 2025, with sustainable construction and green infrastructure measures in place.
The Minister of State, Jagdish Vishwakarma, informed the Gujarat Assembly that approximately 35 lakh cubic meters of recycled waste will be used for embankment construction. From the 80-acre waste dump in Ahmedabad, 29 acres will be cleared for this purpose. Additionally, about 173.82 lakh cubic meters of fly ash from various thermal power stations will be utilized.
A green belt will be developed on both sides of the expressway, with 97,195 trees to be planted over 97.19 hectares. A 4.50m x 7m wildlife crossing has also been planned to ensure safe movement of animals.
The expressway is designed to handle around 25,000 vehicles per day, with a maximum speed limit of 120 km/h. Provisions have been made to expand it from four lanes to twelve lanes in the future. A cloverleaf interchange similar to Adalaj is planned to improve local connectivity.
For connectivity from the Ahmedabad-Dholera Expressway to Dholera International Airport, a 9.56 km long link road will be constructed under the Greenfield Alignment at an estimated cost of ₹550.49 crore.
The Minister highlighted that Dholera SIR, a Greenfield Industrial Smart City, is being developed over 920 square kilometers in Ahmedabad district. In the first phase, development work is underway across 153 square kilometers.
Key industries in Dholera SIR include a solar cell and module manufacturing facility by ReNew, a 300 MW solar plant by Tata Power, an electronic equipment unit by Polycab, and India’s first commercial semiconductor fabrication facility by Tata Semiconductor Manufacturing Pvt. Ltd. The region is expected to generate approximately 8 lakh jobs in the future.
Infrastructure development also includes a freight rail link from Bhimnath to Dholera SIR, the Ahmedabad-Dholera Expressway, the Ahmedabad-Dholera Metro Rail, and a dedicated freight corridor, ensuring robust connectivity for the industrial hub.
