Dholera set to become major hub for high-tech manufacturing, says Union minister Ashwini Vaishnaw

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw highlighted Dholera’s emerging role as a global high-tech manufacturing hub, emphasizing the city’s semiconductor projects and strategic infrastructure developments.

Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw, recently stated that Dholera city in Gujarat is poised to become a major hub for high-technology manufacturing in the near future, attracting global attention as India strengthens its position in the semiconductor industry. During a high-level meeting in Gandhinagar attended by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi, and Science & Technology Minister Arjun Modhwadia, Vaishnaw reviewed ongoing progress in semiconductor and display fabrication projects, including facilities being developed by Tata Electronics, Micron, and CG Semicon in Dholera and Sanand, highlighting the government’s commitment to positioning India as a global semiconductor leader. The minister received detailed presentations on key state government initiatives, encompassing the development of power, water, logistics, and social infrastructure, along with strategic rail, road, and air connectivity to support these high-value manufacturing units. Vaishnaw emphasized that almost all countries worldwide are closely observing India and Gujarat’s semiconductor sector, with Dholera emerging as a focal point due to its advanced infrastructure, integrated planning, and supportive policy framework, which collectively create an ecosystem conducive to high-tech industrial growth. The Union minister underscored the critical responsibility of both Central and state governments to ensure that India’s first semiconductor chips become fully operational within the scheduled timelines, highlighting 10 strategic projects that require constant monitoring and time-bound execution. He also assured that relevant government departments remain available round-the-clock to provide necessary support and resolve any challenges faced by the semiconductor industry. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel noted that, although prior efforts to initiate semiconductor projects in India had been made, significant progress has only been achieved under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, translating ambitious plans into actionable projects on the ground. Patel emphasized that public confidence in India’s emergence as a global semiconductor leader is growing, and coordinated, timely planning across all related government departments is essential to sustain this momentum. In addition to governance and regulatory measures, Dholera’s infrastructure—including the planned high-speed rail connection to Ahmedabad, modernized roads, power supply systems, and water networks—is designed to facilitate industrial efficiency and attract further investment, ensuring that the city’s semiconductor and high-tech manufacturing ecosystem remains competitive on the global stage. By aligning policy support, technological readiness, and industrial development, Dholera is set to become a globally recognized hub for advanced manufacturing, positioning India as a formidable player in next-generation industries and semiconductor production.
