Guj’s First Vande Metro Will Connect A’bad To Dholera

A proposal to introduce Gujarat’s first Vande Metro train service connecting Ahmedabad and Dholera has been sent to the Ministry of Railways. A feasibility study for the project is currently underway, according to senior government officials.

The proposed Vande Metro service is expected to significantly improve connectivity to Dholera, which is rapidly emerging as a major industrial and manufacturing hub. Over 100 small and large companies have already established operations in the region, including major investments in the semiconductor sector.

Officials noted that enhanced rail connectivity is essential to support Dholera’s growth, especially with large projects such as Tata Group’s semiconductor fabrication plant and Micron Technology’s facility coming up in the area. Improved transport options will benefit employees, investors, and supporting industries.

The Vande Metro is designed for short and medium-distance travel of up to 100 kilometres, making Ahmedabad–Dholera an ideal route. To maintain higher speeds, the service is likely to have limited stops, with officials indicating that only around four stations may be planned along the route.

The Vande Metro is a shorter-distance, high-speed variant of the Vande Bharat Express, tailored for fast and efficient urban and regional commuting. The first Vande Metro service in the country is expected to be rolled out soon, with trials already in progress on select routes.

Alongside rail connectivity, the state government is also developing supporting infrastructure such as expressways, an international airport, and social amenities including schools, hospitals, and housing. These developments are expected to further accelerate Dholera’s transformation into a world-class industrial city.
