PM Modi to address 'India's Techade', lay foundation stone of 3 semiconductor projects
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate three major semiconductor projects under the 'India's Techade: Chips for Viksit Bharat' initiative, including India’s first AI-enabled semiconductor fab in Dholera, Gujarat, marking a key milestone in India’s chip manufacturing journey.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to participate in the 'India's Techade: Chips for Viksit Bharat' program, laying the foundation stone for three semiconductor projects worth approximately Rs 1.25 lakh crore via video conferencing. He will also address youth across India during the event.
A highlight of the initiative is the semiconductor fabrication facility at the Dholera Special Investment Region (DSIR), Gujarat, being established by Tata Electronics Private Limited (TEPL) in collaboration with Taiwan’s PSMC. With an investment exceeding Rs 91,000 crore, this facility will be India’s first commercial semiconductor fab, generating over 20,000 direct and indirect skilled jobs and producing up to 50,000 wafers per month.
The Dholera fab will incorporate advanced factory automation, including data analytics and machine learning, to achieve industry-leading efficiency. It will manufacture chips for applications such as power management ICs, display drivers, microcontrollers (MCUs), and high-performance computing logic, supporting sectors like automotive, computing, data storage, wireless communication, and artificial intelligence.
In addition to the Dholera project, PM Modi will virtually lay the foundation stones for two other facilities recently approved by the Cabinet. One of these is in Sanand, Gujarat, in collaboration with CG Power and Japanese semiconductor manufacturer Renesas, with an estimated investment of Rs 7,500 crore.
The event will be attended by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendrabhai Patel, Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Tata Sons chairman N Chandrasekaran, and other dignitaries, highlighting the strategic importance of these projects in strengthening India’s semiconductor ecosystem.
