Tata Electronics, PSMC Sign Deal to Build Gujarat Semiconductor Plant

Mumbai: Tata Electronics has signed an agreement with Taiwan’s Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (PSMC) to help develop a semiconductor manufacturing plant in Dholera, Gujarat. The deal will see PSMC providing the necessary technology and expertise to get the facility up and running.

The plant, set to be a key part of India’s push into the semiconductor space, will require an investment of up to Rs 91,000 crore and is expected to create more than 20,000 jobs. It will have the capacity to produce 50,000 wafers a month, with the chips being used in areas such as artificial intelligence, automotive, and wireless communication.

Tata Electronics has also partnered with two Taiwanese design firms to ensure the Fab meets global standards for safety, quality, and sustainability. The project is seen as a significant step in reducing India’s reliance on semiconductor imports, while also boosting its role in the global tech supply chain.

This collaboration marks a move towards strengthening India’s semiconductor manufacturing capabilities, a sector seen as crucial for future technological growth.
