N Chandrasekaran talked about the company’s expansion and investment plans in the state and said that the conglomerate is about to start a 20 GW gigafactory for manufacturing lithium-ion batteries in Sanand in two months.
Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran on Wednesday said that Tata Group will build a semiconductor factory at Dholera in Gujarat. While speaking at the Vibrant Gujarat Summit 2024, N Chandrasekaran talked about the company’s expansion and investment plans in the state and said that the conglomerate is about to start a 20 GW gigafactory for manufacturing lithium-ion batteries in Sanand in two months. He said that the group has also made a commitment and is on the verge of concluding, and announcing a “huge semiconductor fab” in Dholera. “We are about to complete negotiations for the semiconductor fab, and start in 2024,” said N Chandrasekaran.
“Recently, we have made significant commitments to expand our presence in the state of Gujarat. Sanand is becoming home for all our electric vehicles’ technology,” he said, while adding that the expansion in Sanand has been undertaken to meet the growing demand for EVs.
Besides this, the group is also building the C295 defense aircraft in Vadodara initially and will later start manufacturing it at Dholera. He elaborated on the group's expansion plan in Gujarat in the areas of EV vehicles, battery production, C295 defense aircraft and semiconductor fab, and advanced manufacturing skill building. “Gujarat is one of the most important destinations for Tata Group and we will play a key role in its development journey,” he said.
N Chandrasekaran also lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘visionary leadership’ that has enabled the ‘steady and spectacular progress’ of Gujarat consistently over a long period. He underlined that economic development has also resulted in tremendous social development and Gujarat has clearly established itself as the gateway to the future. He highlighted the origin of the Tata Group in Gujarat as the Founder Jamshedji Tata was born in Navsari. Currently, 21 Tata Group companies including Tata Power, Tata Motors, Tata Consultancy, the defense company, advance systems, hotels, Tata Steel, all the retail companies, Air India, and many other companies, have a presence in Gujarat and they employ over 50,000 people in the state. “For the Tata group , Gujarat is an extraordinary place,” he said.
